Why Does this Barbie Blog?

Let’s think pink! From the dolls and the toy accessories to the clothing and hair accessories I wore as a young girl, my room and my wardrobe were pretty pink. I was obsessed with Pinterest and We Heart It during my teenage years, that my boards were filled with aesthetics of all things Barbie, including niche fashion and make-up styles trending at that time. This led to the rise and the evolution of barbiecore, changing the game in today’s fashion trends of vibrant hot pink. Even celebrities are barbiecore glammed up on red carpets, influencing fashion girlies like me to own a few clothing and accessory pieces inspired by the ever-growing aesthetic.

Apart from the fashion inspired by Barbie, the classic movies are what made me first fall in love. Barbie grew up with me. It was my childhood and one of my inspirations growing up. I was first introduced to the Barbie movies by my cousins who are only a few years older than me. Their parents bought them the DVDs each time they were released, and we would play them during our sleepovers or anytime we hung out, which was quite often! Still to this day I occasionally would stream Barbie online. It’s my nostalgic comfort movie that cheers me up on a bad day!

With just over 40 animated Barbie movies made in a little over two decades, it has made mine and other people’s childhoods so memorable, so it’s amazing to see generations of fans love and watch Barbie evolve over the years. Its popularity successfully bloomed resulting in a live action Barbie movie released in July 2023. Having already watching Barbie in the cinema, actors Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are the perfect cast choice for Barbie and Ken. Their performance was destined to bring the characters to life, bringing a powerful and dynamic duo onto the screens! More importantly, it was an opportunity to portray an important message behind the pink glam and perfect narrative in Barbie Land.

Over all the pinkness, I love the message the Barbie movie portrayed. While it has a blend of comedy, adventure, fantasy and romance, there’s a breakthrough within the movie’s storyline that captivates me. The realism of discovering individuality and identity from a feminist perspective is so raw, I believe the movie’s theme and the issues represented needs to be talked about more. Barbie has such special place in my heart, and this blog is one way to share with you the significance of the Barbie movie.
